Gilchrest could face primary challenge

Posted by Jeff Quinton on May 15, 2007

State Senator Andrew Harris (District 8, Baltimore County) has said he’s considering challenging incumbent Congressman Wayne Gilchrest in the 2008 Republican Primary. Harris serves in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Naval Reserve and is a professor and Chief of Obstetric Anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is married with five children.

The article  mentions Republicans are upset about Gilchrest being one of two Republicans to vote with Democrats for a troop withdrawal from Iraq. However, Harris points out he doesn’t expect Iraq to be much of a campaign issue in the district. Harris has also led the fight against illegal immigration recently in the legislature, including making a filibuster threat against a bill that would have given in-state tuition to illegal aliens.
