Gilman headmaster resigns over resume padding

Posted by Jeff Quinton on July 1, 2007

Gilman School headmaster Jon C. McGill has resigned amid questions about misrepresentations on his resume. Apparently his resume had him listed as playing hockey in college until it was removed in recent years. The school’s board of trustees issued a statement regarding the resignation.

The news stories only refer to Headmaster McGill’s resume padding. If you read carefully the letter from Gilman, however, it is clear that McGill made the same misrepresentation in early interviews with Gilman. Gilman specifically says “in his resume and in our early discussions with him.” McGill is a man who actively sold himself as a Hockey player. This makes him far more culpable than if he had only intentionally exaggerated the item on his resume.
