A roundup of today’s Baltimore news.
Two wrecks snarled the inbound commute on I-83 this morning. One of them was fatal.
As we just reported, a Baltimore City resident who was charged with murder for shooting a thief stealing the rims from his car was denied bail today.
One man was killed and another wounded in a shooting early Sunday at Windsor Inn on Windsor Mill Road in Woodlawn. Baltimore County Police have identified the dead victim as 23-year old Taavon Chambers of that area. The suspect and motive are unknown. It is known that the suspect fled the scene in a white soft-top Lincoln Continental with Maryland license plates that included the letters LNL.
All of the candidates for Mayor, Comptroller and Baltimore City Council should be known by 9 tonight. In honor of the occasion, John Fritze and Sumathi Reddy of the Sun are authoring a new blog called Baltimore Votes 2007. Aside from an introductory post, so far they’ve managed to track down the age of Delegate Jill Carter (she’s 44), who is running for Mayor.
A Rockville man was rescued by the Coast Guard yesterday in waters off Fort Lauderdale after he either fell or jumped from the Carnival Liberty, which left port earlier in the day. The man “appeared to be intoxicated.”
The Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees has called on county officials to suspend Fred Homan and postpone a vote that would appoint him county administrator for 4 years and would also give him a $36,000 raise from his current budget director position. County officials claim that allegations against Homan are just sour grapes from a disgruntled former employee.
Earlier, we discussed some of the 191 new laws that took effect yesterday. The Baltimore Sun takes a closer look at the new law that allows ex-felons to vote.
The Orioles play at the White Sox tonight at 8:11 p.m. on MASN 2 and WHFS (105.7). The pitching matchup is Bedard against Buehrle.
