Police commish Hamm resigns

Posted by Jeff Quinton on July 18, 2007

The Examiner reports that embattled Baltimore City Police Commissioner Leonard Hamm has resigned from that post. At least one mayoral candidate (Keiffer Mitchell) in the September primary has called for Hamm to resign as the homicide rate steadily climbs. The story mentions that interim mayor Sheila Dixon is going to announce the resignation in a news conference tomorrow. Deputy Commissioner Frederick Bealefield will serve as acting commissioner.

The Sun received no comment from either Dixon’s office or the Police Department.

You are wrong. Keiffer Mitchell only followed and copied Jill Carter who was the first to call for Commisioner Hamm’s removal. This was at the Baltimore Jewish Council on June 13, and reported in the Examiner on June 14. At that time, Mitchell was silent regarding Hamm’s position. Later Baltimore Sun for Mitchell misled the public and wrote a headline that Mitchell called for his resignation. Please get your facts straight. Jill Carter is the only leader, only visionary, and only person of integrity in the mayor’s race.

Thanks for reading and responding Nicole. If you’ll notice I used the words “at least one candidate” called for the firing and I made no claim of who the first person to do so was. Mitchell has called for his resignation so if that was the Sun headline it was correct. The question of who did it first is an entirely other matter that this post didn’t even attempt to address. Therefore, I am not wrong. Thanks again for reading and commenting.
