City to name street for Hip-Hop Exec
Hip-Hop Elements (via the Ed Norris Show) reports that Baltimore City is going to rename the 2900 block of Presstman Street to Kevin Liles Drive. Liles is Executive Vice President of Warner Music Group and worked his way up in the ranks of Def Jam from unpaid intern to President at the age of 30. While at Def Jam, he helped created other brands that included Roc-A-Fella, Murder Inc. and Def Jam South.
The HHE article linked above points out that artists at these labels included Jay-Z at Roc-A-Fella, Ashanti and Ja Rule at Murder Inc. and Ludacris at Def Jam South. Ludacris has been criticized for lyrical content by Bill O’Reilly and Oprah Winfrey, among others. Jay-Z and Ja Rule have both had legal troubles while Ja Rule has been involved in feuds with a long list of rappers.
Kiles thanks the Mayor Sheila Dixon and Governor “Mark” O’Malley in the HHE article.
