Restaurant Review: Pasta Blitz in Timonium
Posted by Jeff Quinton on August 26, 2007Last night for dinner we were having trouble deciding where to go but eventually narrowed it down to either Andy Nelson’s BBQ or Pasta Blitz. We’d heard about Pasta Blitz a few months ago on the Beltway Gourmet segment on Dave Durian on WBAL and I’d even looked up the menu online on their website and let my wife look at it and she was ready to go there at the time (she’s 3rd generation Italian-American), we just never got around to it. As the rain started to come down and the lightning flashed all around us, we decided to go have pasta.
Pasta Blitz is on West Aylesbury right off Timonium Road in the same shopping center that Super Fresh is in. They don’t have a liquor license so it’s BYOB. There’s a liquor store a couple of doors down past the Hallmark store. They have daily lunch specials during the week and lunch portions and prices for all their regular menu items until 3 p.m.
The walls are decorated with pictures of ingredients and pictures from Italy. The music that played while we were there consisted of a lot of opera and some Italian pop music. There are booths and tables and in the back you can see into the kitchen at the counter where they handle takeout orders. You can hear some of the staff back there speaking in Italian. Every table’s decor includes a big bottle of San Pellegrino mineral water.
We both got soft drinks for our beverage and our waiter brought out some really good bread with oil. My wife got a cup of Pasta Fagioli soup. She said it was different than the way her family usually prepared it, but it was still good. She ordered the gnocchi sorrentina, which is “Homemade potato dumpling with light garlic olive & fresh basil. Finished with light marinara sauce & fresh mozzarella.” I’d had gnocchi a few times before but not usually this fresh. I tried some of her gnocchi and it was great. She enjoyed it as well.
I ordered the penne alla carbonara which is “Penne pasta sauteed with olive oil, pancetta and egg yolk in a light cream wine sauce, finished with romano cheese & fresh black pepper.” It was really good and I’d get it again sometime after I’ve tried some of the other menu items that also sounded appetizing. For dessert, we both got limoncello tartufo, which was frozen. It was really tasty. There is a large selection of both homemade and Bindi desserts that includes tiramisu, among other items.
Our waiter was excellent, the food was great and the price was affordable. Our total bill (pre-tip) was around $42. We’ll definitely be eating there again and I’d highly recommend it to anyone in the area. If you’re going to the state fair sometime in the next week or so and you’re not interested in fair food, it might be a good place to pop in for lunch or dinner.

I shop over at that SuperFresh regularly so I’ve always been curious about Pasta Blitz. We always get our pizza from Pasta Mista over on York Road but it’s always nice to know someplace where you can get a decent pasta dinner. Of course, I’d always choose Andy Nelson’s over pretty much any other restaurant in the area, but that’s just me.
