Baltimore Remembers 9/11: Open Thread

FlagsThis post is to chronicle 9/11 remembrances (official or unofficial) by the citizens of the Baltimore area.  I’ll post a few of the things going on that I’ve noticed and you can also post events or your personal remembrances on the comments for this post.

The Run to Remember already took place this morning downtown at Baltimore Police headquarters. It benefits the Baltimore PD and Baltimore FD. It was actually held on 9/11 this year instead of on the weekend.

There was also a wreath-laying at the police memorial downtown this morning.

UMBC will have a ceremony at 8:30 this morning outside the administration building. The picture at the left is from after that ceremony last year of the flags commemorating all of the victims of 9/11 placed on the lawn.

Please feel free to leave your own remembrances of 9/11 in the comments below (and out of respect – no matter what your political leaning – please do your best to keep politics out of it.)

…which caused one mother of a traffic snarl and a normal commute of 40min to over 2 hours. I’ll never forget 9/11, nor its meaning, but you’d think some of those Balto PD/FD guys would schedule these things on the weekend or non-rush hour timeframes…

I was living in upstate NY right on the Canadian border when the terrorists hit. There was a classmate of my daughter’s who’s parents were supposed to be on one of those planes but had missed there connecting flight. There was someone else from our small town who had moved to NYC and worked in one of the towers, he was late for work that morning because he had stopped to vote in a primary election. I remember the military, police and border patrol all in a heightened state of alert on the border and it made me feel safe and afraid and proud all at the same time.
