College Football Wrap-up

After leading 21-3, Maryland fought off a Georgia Tech comeback attempt to win the game 28-26 at Byrd Stadium. Georgia Tech missed what could have been the game-winning field goal with a minute left. The Terps were plagued with injuries throughout the game. Offensive lineman Andrew Crummey is out for the season after breaking his fibula during the game. Rick Costa, who was starting in place of the injured Erin Henderson, was taken to Shock Trauma after a neck injury and was treated and released. He is reportedly wearing a neck brace for a few days now with no word on his status with the team. The Terps are idle this week and then they host the Virginia Cavaliers on October 20.

Morgan State won their second game in a row (this one at home) as the defeated MEAC foe North Carolina A&T 22-17. Chad Simpson of the Bears rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns. A&T extended their losing streak, which goes back to their last win against Morgan in October 2005 at Fedex Field. The Bears host Howard this Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Towson Tigers won on the final play of the game to upset the Richmond Spiders. After three straight Sean Schaefer passes moved the Tigers down to the Richmond 14 with :04 remaining, Schaefer connected with Demetrius Harrison in the endzone as the clock ran out to give Towson the 23-21 victory. The Spiders were ranked 15th in the FCS (former I-AA) polls headed into yesterday’s contest. Schaefer was 29 of 33 for 287 yards through the air, including a school record 15 consecutive completions. The Tigers host Hofstra this Saturday at 3:30.

Navy was idle this weekend. The Midshipmen travel to Pittsburgh for an 8 p.m. kickoff this Wednesday night (October 10.)

In other action, Johns Hopkins defeated Dickinson with a 40 yard field goal at the very end of the game. The Blue Jays defeated the Red Devils 20-17. Bowie defeated Livingstone 44-6. Ike Redman rushed for 218 yards in the Bulldog victory. Frostburg State suffered a 45-0 defeat at home against Wesley and Salisbury defeated previously unbeaten Geneva 20-7.

    Not only does Morgan host arch rival Howard, its also our homecoming.
