Sankofa Dance Theater returns to the BMA to perform
“Congo Square… A New Orleans Tale”
Congo Square … A New Orleans Tale is a full length concert written, directed and performed by the Sankofa Dance Theater at the Baltimore Museum of Art on Saturday, February 23, 2008. This African History Month Concert presents a travelogue journey that begins in the village in Africa. The Company takes the audience with them and they become the village only to be torn away and transported to a new land and an unknown life …. This thought provoking dance drama is a story that must be told and a story that you should not miss.
Sankofa Dance Theater creates and presents world-class, authentic African art in the form of dance, music, and folkways for national and international audiences. The work of the Company is rooted in the definition of the word “Sankofa” which means to learn from the past in an effort to build for the future. Sankofa Dance Theater reaches back into the rich legacy of African culture and history to move forward into greater intercultural awareness for the global community.
