Each and every year, Wegamans is rated in the top 5, by Forbes magazine. Wegmans takes care of their employees with excellent wages and health benefits. I plan to apply when the COlumbia store begins accepting applications. Safeway & Giant do not want a Company like Wegmans in town for 2 reasons. 1, cheaper overall prices, not counting Wegmans speciality items. Cheaper with similar products to Safeway & Giants. (I.E. canned goods, cereal, Ketchup, Frozen Veggies, Soda, Boxed Macaroni, Yogurt , etc... And the 2ND. reason, NO UNION. WHich is fine, Wegmans treats their staff Very well. LOW turnover , employees stay. As for the consumer, low prices, more variety and some very fine products not often found in Maryland. Giant & Safeway need to change themselves to survive the long haul. Food Lion, (BLOOM is also Food lion), Weis, Mars & noe Harris Teeter are offering lower prices for the same items. Now another store has entered Frederick and could be coming towards Baltimore, GIANT EAGLE which is like a Harris Teeter is another fine store.
