Maryland Primary Results

My liveblogging of the Maryland primary will continue in this post with results as they come in. I will constantly update this post.

Exit poll results from earlier

9:30 PM EST: NBC has called the Maryland Primary at 9:30 with Obama and McCain winning by significant margins. Fox News has also projected McCain and Obama as the Maryland winners.

9:40 EST: Fox News shows that Clinton is ahead 50% to 33% with less than 1% of the precincts reporting and McCain ahead 56% to 26% with less than 1% reporting. (Remember, Obama has been called as the winner by the networks.)

9:46 EST: WBAL.com has the results as they get updated.

10:04: The 1st District Primary is expected to be a close one.

10:47: Results by county.

10:51: Reports of late voters turned away after 8 p.m. but before 9:30.

11:04: 4th District Congressional primary between Donna Edwards and incumbent Rep. Albert Wynn is too close to call right now.

11:11 EST: Andy Harris is leading in the 1st District primary with 23% of the precincts reporting. Harris is at 42%, incumbent Wayne Gilchrest is at 31%, and E.J. Pipkin is at 24%.

11:15: Gilchrest is on WBAL TV and some woman wailing in the background is drowning out most of his interview. Gilchrest says there have been a lot of distortions and noise that have confused the voters. Race has tightened to Harris 40%, Gilchrest 35%, and Pipkin at 22% with 34% reporting. A taped interview with former Gov. Bob Ehrlich on why he’s supporting Harris is on WBAL TV now. Lowell Melser of WBAL is reporting on how “dirty” the race is and how tight it is. Before the last break Melser teased a possible “controversy” at Harris HQ but then when they came back after the break following the Gilchrest interview they just ran tape of the Ehrlich interview.

11:31: With 35% reporting, the 1st District Republican Primary now stands Harris 41%, Gilchrest 34% and Pipkin 22%.

11:40: Drudge Report

In the Chesapeake Rout, according to exit polls in Maryland, Obama won:
Latino Voters By Six Points: 53-47
All Religions (Including Catholics)
All Age Groups (Including Seniors)
All Regions
All Education Levels
And Women by TWENTY ONE POINTS…

11:47: With 53% of precincts reporting, Andy Harris has 39% (14,831 votes), Wayne Gilchrest has 36% (13,674 votes) and E.J. Pipkin is at 21% (8,096 votes.)

11:55: The MD GOP has released a statement on the primaries.

1:02 A.M. EST: 2 incumbents in the Maryland Congressional delegation have been defeated. With 78% of the precincts reporting, Andy Harris has been declared the winner in the 1st District Republican Primary. He got 41% (20,792 votes) to 35% (17,660 votes) for incumbent Wayne Gilchrest and 22% (10,998 votes) for E.J. Pipkin. In the 4th District Democratic Primary, incumbent Albert Wynn lost to Donna Edwards.
