March 5, 2008O’Malley Approval Rating Plummets Another 6%
For First Time, Majority of Democrats
Do Not Approve Of O’MalleyANNAPOLIS— Today, Gonzales Research and Marketing Strategies released a poll showing that Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley’s approval rating “continues to feel the effects of last fall’s special session.” In just two months, Governor O’Malley’s overall approval rating plummeted another 6%, from 39% to 37%.
For the first time since taking office, less than half of all Democrats approve of the job Governor O’Malley is doing. The Gonzales poll found that only 48% of Democrats approve of O’Malley’s performance on the job, which is an 8% drop from his 52% approval among Democrats just two months ago.
Marylanders continue to be most concerned with taxes and the economy. One in five Marylanders named taxes as their number one concern while nearly one in four stated the economy was their primary concern.
Dr. Jim Pelura, Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party, released the following statement:
“When Martin O’Malley is so far out of the mainstream, it is no surprise that his approval rating has plummeted by another 6%. Nearly two-thirds of Marylanders do not approve of the job he is doing. Now for the first time, a majority of Democrats do not approve of his brand of leadership.
“Marylanders continue to be most concerned with being overtaxed and being unable to make ends meet. Unfortunately, Martin O’Malley and Democrats in the General Assembly are ignoring their constituents’ concerns. They are pushing for more taxes and more government spending in the current Session. They still think they can tax this state into prosperity.
“Republicans have the right solutions. They have put forth proposals to slow the growth in government spending, balance the budget, and provide tax relief, including a repeal of the computer services tax. Maryland continues to have a spending problem, not a revenue problem. If Maryland’s families must work within their means, so should the state government.”

Martin O’Malley passed the largest tax hike in Maryland’s history! If Martin O’Malley did not think that passing more taxes on working Marylanders would hurt us then he deserves everything he got. Governor O’Malley is all about taxes, taxes, and more taxes. Governor Martin O’Malley’s term will cost the average Marylander over a thousand dollars! I’m ready for a chance. Enough of O’Malley already!

Like O’Malley said, “where would the middle class be without government programs?”
