Overnight blaze battled

More than 100 firefighters in Baltimore City have spent the overnight battling a warehouse fire in the city’s Southwest Corridor.

Baltimore City Fire Department spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright tells WBAL News, the blaze broke out around 1:30 this morning in the 1600-block of Haines Street, near I-95, and 895.

Motorists traveling along both highways called WBAL to report that they saw a huge column of smoke and flames coming from the building.

Cartwright says the warehouse contained lumber, and there were homeless people living in the building.

However, Cartwright says no one has been hurt, and there are no hazardous materials in the building.

Cartwright adds no evacuations were necessary.

As of 4:45 am, the fire was contained to the building, and firefighters were pouring water on the blaze from the outside of the building, because Cartwright says the building was in danger of collapsing.
