Mikulski calls for ‘revolution’

Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski has a message for the women of America. “Put your lipstick on, square your shoulders, suit up” and get ready to fight.

That call to “revolution” came minutes after the GOP killed legislation that would have removed limits on how long workers can wait to sue for pay discrimination.

As a sign of the political importance of the bill, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama made it to the Capitol to speak in favor of the legislation. It was the first time in months that both candidates spoke on the Senate floor.

Republicans were unified against it enough to muster 42 votes to supporters’ 56 votes. The bill passed the House in July, 225-199. The White House had said it faced a presidential veto.

Presumed GOP Presidential nominee John McCain, was out campaigning and did not vote. He opposed the bill.
