Photographer attacked at school where teacher was attacked
Posted by Jeff Quinton on April 25, 2008A photographer for The Examiner (Baltimore) was attacked by a person believed to be a student while the photographer was taking pictures at a school where an art teacher was assaulted earlier this month, the newspaper said.
Arianne Starnes, 24, said she was thrown to the ground Thursday morning after an apparent student at Reginald F. Lewis High School left a group of about 20 other persons.
Starnes told the newspaper that others in the group had posed for pictures to be used by the newspaper in a special report when the attacker wearing a blue bandana emerged and accused her of taking his picture. Starnes said she told the boy she had not photographed him.
The attacker grabbed Starnes’ cameras, pulling at the straps and threatening her. After a struggle, Starnes was pushed backward to the ground, falling on her cameras.
Starnes stood up and was again confronted by the boy, who this time pointed his finger at her head and pretended to shoot her, saying “I told you not to take a f… picture.”
Art teacher Jolita Berry, viciously attacked in a Lewis classroom in a beatdown captured by videophone camera and shared with the world via the Internet and television, said she was not surprised by the attack on the photographer.
Berry told the Examiner “that’s exactly what teachers have to put up with…you see what I mean? That’s how they are. It’s just crazy. I’m not surprised, but I think it’s horrible.”
School police took Starnes’ statement at The Examiner’s office, and an investigation is under way.

Uh, right! I’m sure that the young “man” was just suffering from a lack of self-esteem and will be okay when his mug picture will be published in the Sun as a victim of the Press.

How come a private business in Maryland (or anywhere else in the United States), which may employ a woman or a minority who experiences harassment, even subjectively, by a single employee, is subject to harsh legal, and monetary penalties, but teachers and children at our very own public schools go day in and day out while suffering real physical and mental abuse, merit nothing??

What possible reason do teachers have to work in that City if this sort of thing is “Not surprising?”
If the school admin. knows this is part of the school “curriculum” why aren’t there armed “Rent-a-cops” standing in the halls to stop this stuff?
Put some of these animlas in the hopsital for serious injuries and they’ll think twice before they attack someone.
