New destroyer to be commissioned tonight in Baltimore
The U.S.S. Sterrett will be commissioned at South Locust Point tonight and I’ll be there. I’ll post pictures later. Here’s some information on the past week’s events and the current Sterrett family. More info on the other ships named Sterrett and the ship’s namesake are also available.

The commissioning of a naval vessel is a big deal. My husband was a member of the commissioning crew of the U.S.S. Saginaw LST1188 back in January of 1970. However, other than one relatively small article I saw in the Sun on Friday, and a very short mention on WJZ news at 11:00 PM tonight, I have found no other mention of this event on the Baltimore TV stations. And the fact that they moved the Constellation over to the commisioning site should have been cause for more media coverage. Baltimore TV stations, you should be ashamed of yourselves!

Hey Mr. Quinton, have you posted the pics from the commissioning yet? If so, where did you post them? I was there too and I’m trying to put together a compilation of pics for someone on the ship. Thanks.

my only comment is my dyslexic read of the headline: New commissioner to be destroyed tonight in Baltimore.
Guess that would be newsworthy as well…
