Gilchrest betrays GOP and supports Kratovil

Rep. Wayne T. Gilchrest, ousted after nine terms in a bitter Republican primary campaign last winter, will cross party lines today to endorse Democrat Frank M. Kratovil Jr. in the 1st Congressional District.

A senior member of Gilchrest’s staff confirmed yesterday that the veteran lawmaker - who earned a reputation as a staunch environmentalist who frequently clashed with Republican Party leaders - will join Kratovil, an Eastern Shore prosecutor, at appearances today in Annapolis and Easton.

He was defeated this year in the Republican primary, in part because of a barrage of television ads and direct mail from state Sen. Andy Harris, an anesthesiologist who is a leader among GOP conservatives in the State House.

Cross party lines? Little Wayne was a leftist already! This is just sourgrapes from Pelosi’s favorite ‘republican’. I joined the republican party JUST TO VOTE THIS MAN OUT OF OFFICE and I am glad I did so!

I, on the other hand, crossed party lines to vote for this man in nine general elections and ten primaries. I agree wholehartedly with Wayne that the Republican Party has gone off the rails. He was one of the few true conservatives left in Congress. Neocons are something else and it ain’t pretty.

Not sure how you crossed party lines legally to vote for Gilchrest in a primary Clark since MD has party registration and closed primaries.

True, I cold only do that in 2000 when I was registered as, and the Repubs allowed, independents to vote. I misspoke. It will show up in someone’s campaign ad some day, I’m sure.

Really, I don’t know if anyone could agree on these things. When I see Lieberman I think he’s an opportunistic hypocrite, while Republicans think he’s the only thinking Democrat left. It’s the same thing here.
