City to ban moving billboards?

WBAL.com

The Baltimore County Council tonight considers a proposed ban on billboards attached to trucks or trailers.

Critics say the billboards are a safety hazard and a distraction to other drivers.

The president of one mobile billboard company tells WBAL News that this ordinance is unfair, and that it targets his business.

Jeff Giordano, president of ScrollingAds.net says the electronic billboards on his trucks are no more distracting to drivers than the ads that are placed on the back or sides of MTA buses.

Earlier this year, a judge in Collier County, Florida, ruled that the county’s ban on these billboards was unconstitutional, noting that it violates free speech.

According to news reports, last month the county agreed to pay the company $225,000.

The Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce is also against this ordinance.

The ordinance is sponsored by Councilman T. Brian McIntire.
