Board of Public Works to help Sports Legends museum

WBAL.com

In Annapolis today, the Board of Public Works is expected to approve a plan to help the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards.

The plan finalizes a deal negotiated between the museum and Maryland Stadium Authority.

Under the proposal, the Stadium Authority will forgive $444,274 in debt.

The deal will lower the rent payment for the museum, and it will restructure the lease on the museum from 21 years to a five year term, with the option to renew the lease for three additional terms of five years each.

Since it opened in 2005, the museum has struggled to attract visitors, due in part to dwindling attendance at Orioles games.

The Stadium Authority is working out a similar deal with Geppi’s Entertainment Museum which is located one floor above the Sports Legends Museum in Camden Station.

The Baltimore Sun reported last month that museum Steve Geppi will pay off a $650,000 debt on that museum, by the end of the year.
