More detours on the Hatem Bridge this week

Baltimore Sun

Westbound traffic on the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge across the Susquehanna River between Harford and Cecil counties will be detoured to Interstate 95 overnight from Tuesday through Friday and Dec. 15-16. Eastbound travelers will experience about a 30-minute delay twice each night, while crews set up barrier walls. All lanes should be open to traffic by 5 a.m. each morning. The Maryland Department of Transportation began a $56 million, three-year reconstruction of the bridge in June. The entire deck on the nearly 1 1/2 -mile span between Havre de Grace and Perryville will be replaced for the first time since the span was built 70 years ago. Crews will also repair substructure concrete piers, install a permanent concrete barrier in the center for the length of the bridge and widen the lanes slightly by restructuring existing barrier walls.
