State makes $18M in greenhouse gas credit auction
A recent auction of greenhouse gas emission credits last week netted Maryland more than $18 million for clean energy programs.
The 10 states in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative participated in the country’s second auction Wednesday, earning more than $106.5 million through the sale of carbon dioxide emission credits.
“It’s an indicator that this is a strong system and that it’s working,” said Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Shari Wilson. “This seems to be providing a great model for the federal level.”
More than 31.5 million credits were sold at $3.38 apiece, according to RGGI Inc.
