New DISA director named

The largest federal agency coming to Fort Meade in 2011 put a new leader in charge this past week as it prepares to make its move to Maryland.

Army Lt. Gen. Carroll Pollett was sworn in as the director of the Defense Information Systems Agency, a position that also serves as commander of the Joint Task Force-Global Network Operations.

DISA is in Arlington, Va., but is moving to Fort Meade because of the Base Realignment and Closure, which will be Pollett’s first major task.

Pollett once worked for DISA, which handles information technology services for the U.S. Department of Defense and the military. Pollett was a former chief of staff for the U.S. Strategic Command and has worked in Army intelligence groups.

Navy Rear Adm. Elizabeth Hight will stay on as DISA’s vice president, though she had been considered for the agency’s top spot.
