Dixon grand jury expiring
The grand jury investigating possible corruption at Baltimore’s City Hall, including the financial dealings of Mayor Sheila Dixon, expires at the end of the week.
The investigation by the Maryland State Prosecutor’s office has been going on since March 2006 and has resulted in no indictments of public figures.
Observers say the length of the investigation likely means there’s no slam-dunk evidence against Dixon. Baltimore attorney David Irwin tells The Baltimore Sun that State Prosecutor Robert Rohrbaugh “wants to satisfy a standard of ‘beyond any doubt.”‘ Because there have been several grand juries, Irwin believes “there is some doubt.”
Rohrbaugh’s office doesn’t comment on investigations, but the probe has occasionally caught the public eye, as when investigators searched Dixon’s home last summer. They’re looking into whether she took bribes from developers while she was City Council president, among other matters.
