ACORN protesters disrupt foreclosure auction

Protesters with ACORN managed to disrupt auctions of foreclosed homes outside the Mitchell Courthouse in downtown Baltimore for about 40 minutes today before sheriff’s deputies negotiated with them and the crowd dispersed.

About 11:30 a.m., approximately four dozen people began marching outside the Calvert Street side of the courthouse, chanting, “Bail out the people!”

As auctioneers were trying to conduct sales on the courthouse steps, the protesters blew loud whistles to disrupt them and carried banners and flags.

Guards inside the courthouse opened the bronze doors to let the auctioneers inside, and the foreclosure sales were disrupted for about 40 minutes.

Inside the courthouse, deputies prepared to make arrests, gathering handcuffs and receiving directions. Outside, sheriff’s deputies and protesters negotiated.

After the crowd peacefully dispersed, the auctions continued.
