Who care about his face on the flag. You should be more worried about the cult of personality that that flag shows. People are in for a rude awakening when they realize he is just a man. The only reason this is a “historic moment” in our history is because we still look at the color of peoples skin, instead of looking at him as being just another American. Even with this election and his coming Presidency we are a long way off from Martin Luther King’s vision of America.
Come Tuesday I think it should be flown upside down as we will have a Presidency that was bought and paid for with massive amounts of money from who knows where, and a Press that instead of being the guardians of truth for the public, actively helped elect him.

Just because there’s no enforcement mechanism, doesn’t make it right. It was wrong when Bush did it too. The American flag clothing people wear is wrong. Technically the flag stickers football teams wear on their helmets are too.

The deification of this guy is what has me worried. What we are witnessing right now is a phenomenon common to the beginnings of all dictatorships. The press has not reported it, but on January 6, a proposed amendement to the US Constitution was introduced in the House of Representatives. This item, known for the moment as House Joint Resolution 5, would repeal the 22nd Amendment, thereby removing the two-term limit on the Presidency. American Flag Etiquette.

Federal law stipulates many aspects of flag etiquette. The section of law dealing with American Flag etiquette is generally referred to as the Flag Code. Some general guidelines from the Flag Code answer many of the most common questions:

* The flag should be lighted at all times, either by sunlight or by an appropriate light source.
* The flag should be flown in fair weather, unless the flag is designed for inclement weather use.
* The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing. It is flown upside down only as a distress signal.
* The flag should not be used for any decoration in general. Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.
* The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.
* The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations.
* The flag should never have any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind placed on it, or attached to it.
* The flag should never be used for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
* When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms. To store the flag it should be folded neatly and ceremoniously.
* The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.
* When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.

For those who think this is a desecration to the American Flag, then, if so, wouldn’t that mean that when George Bush autographed American Flags in Vienna in 2003 it was a desecration and defacement as well? Because that same title states that the American Flag should never have placed upon it any mark, INSIGNIA, letter, word, figure, design, PICTURE, or drawing of any nature. Therefore the same rules apply. Don’t come down hard on the supporters of the President and not the President himself. Especially when Barack Obama had no direct partake in this event.

Shouldn’t the manufacturers of these “flags” be arrested? These flags are being waved by Obama-bots! Shouldn’t each and every one of those found waving one be arrested also for publicly disrespecting the American flag?

I have known for months that Obama not only wants to amend the constitution (via removal of ammendment 22), but also wants to change the flag!

If America wasn’t good enough to serve the way it was before he won the election, then why did he run and how did he win, and why do you sit idol as he rubs your faces in the fact you can’t do a thing to stop him short of taking on the government in a new civil war?

The flag is a symbol of our nation. This is why it is to be respected. One cannot respect the flag without respecting America, correct? So, is it possible to respect and defend the flag without respecting America? Of course not. My question, then, is how can so many of you be so quick to be offended at a disrespectful action taken against the flag while, in the same breath, debasing the most vital of American values; Democracy. After all, Obama Was democratically elected. At noon on Tuesday, he will be the President, the leader of the United States of America. He will be Commander in Chief of the armed forces. If you can’t handle this, your problem is not with Obama himself, rather, your problem is with democracy, the lifeblood of America. Therefore, you are un-American.

Regarding comment #20 by noman and similar comments by others…

The incident where the President Bush supposedly desecrated the flag was when he signed a small flag handed to him by a citizen requesting an autograph. The Obama-bots are using this incident as justification for Obama’s more recent and large scale desecration of the flag.

Think about it – autographing a small hand held flag at the request of a citizen versus the willful and deliberate design, manufacture, and distribution of display-size flages with Obama’s mug on them. I think its pretty clear which constitutes the more serious violation of the American Flag.

Of course, Obama is already up for sainthood and it has long since been determined that he can do no wrong – I guest that means that everything that is not right for the next 4 years will need to be blamed on someone else.

I have just recently been involved in home schooling my grandson. One of the subjects was World History and I now think it is important for everyone to read how World War II got started in Europe. It’s been generations since we’ve had a truely popular President. A new thing for most people alive today, suppose they don’t recognize it for what it is. As for the Hitler and Lenin comparisons: there support was based on who they were against (the Jews and capitalists), Obama’s support is based on what he is for: Accountability, responsibility – and bringing people together.

Has anyone noticed that the great Presidents seem to come every 80 years or so: Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt…, and each followed a bumbler – the first Continental Congress, Buchanon, Hoover…. There may be a pattern here.

The “District of columbia” of the code portion was struck by a subsequent amendment. This code is the guide for all handling and display of the Stars and Stripes. It does not impose penalties for misuse of the United States Flag. That is left to the states and to the federal government for the District of Columbia. Each state has its own flag law.

Our “most cherished asset” is not the U.S. flag. It is the freedom we create for ourselves and for others. This is a time of renewed hope for a lot of people, and that is what this inaugural version of the flag appears to symbolize. Obama is pulling people together – look at everyone he is reaching out to – and the naysayers don’t get this, or don’t want to. What do they really have to fear?

I don’t think it should be a surprise. This presidential election confirms that we live in anarchy. The constitution looks good on paper, but it’s got no weight. Politicians with influence are exempt; it only applies to the little people and wealthy that gets caught, as long that the crime can’t be traced to an influencial politician. I have to, yet, be convinced that BHO is not a Kenyan, African National. In addition, he would not pass the background investigation to qualify for office. So, there you have it. The man in the highest office wouldn’t qualify for a civil service position; and his birth place is dubious. I would like to be convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that he’s legit. So, if he can get away with not having to show proof of citizenship as dictated by the U.S. constitution, then why would anyone else that supports him should be required to respect the law or any U.S. law. The biggest con job in the history of the United States.

For all the nitwits out there that think Barrack Obama isn’t an american, you need to get your nationality regs right. He was born in 1961 in Hawaii, a U.S. state since 1959. That automatically makes him a U.S. citizen; a born in the u.s. citizen, not an immigrant. That’s all that’s required by the constitution you claim to support. Even if he had been born overseas, he would be born a U.S. citizen since his mother is one, and she spent more than 5 years after the age of 14 in the U.S. That’s all that’s required by the Immigration and Nationality Act (written by white men). That’s the case of John McCain who was born in the Panama Canal Zone. So either way you slice it – he’s a 100% born American. And as for not being able to pass a security clearance? Here’s a news flash…he already has lol. The level of ignorance on this board is truly impressive…not surprising from a bunch of racist knuckle-draggers.

Well since those flags where originally Printed and manufactured with the images on them they where never officially an American Flags. Simply put since they never fully complied with the Design requirements of the American flag they where never Really official an American Flags so there for no code broken. Those flags are nothing but flags that partially resemble portions of an American flag. Since they where never really American Flags in the first place only similar the Flag code does not apply to them. Now on the other Hand if they had taken completed flags that where manufactured as American flags and modified them that would have been a different story. This is exactly what George Bush did when he was signing flags. George W Bush defaced flags that where originally manufactured as American flags.

Just the Interest on the money we have borrowed to pay military expenses is more then 4 times what we spend annually on all social programs combined !!

Lets put the cost of sustaining the Iraq war in prospective. If you live in California The portion of your Federal tax that is being used to pay for sustaining the war in Iraq could have put 1.5 million extra police officers on the street and thats just in California!! It could have paid for an extra 2 million extra elementary school teachers in California. It could have provide health care for 34 million children in California. And this only reflects the portion of the war expense paid for by Californians.

If you live in New York the portion of your Federal Tax used to sustain the war in Iraq could have put and extra 1.1 million police officers on the street…..

Did I mention that the figures used above does not include any Military benefits whatsoever or the cost of caring for wounded solders or the cost for burying dead solders or the cost of the interest on the money we borrowed to pay for the war.

With all this going on complaining about a picture of a president on a pseudo American Flag is kind of Frigging petty don’t you think!!!!!

As it was pointed out before Obamas Picture on that flag does not constitute defacing an American Flag. Those flag never met the official requirements to be considered a real American flag. Those Flags were manufactured that way and since they were manufactured with the pictures on them they could never be considered an American flag.

What we are seeing in this thread is Bigotry based on a Double Standard. No one complaned when a White mans picture was put on an American flag.
Yet let someone put a picture of the first Black President on a Pseudo American flag and all the white conservatives and white supremest have a fit.

This doesn’t really have as much to do with a “code” as it does to what is considered “Flag protocol” . There has always been a certain standard set for our flag and how it should and should not be used. Remember the uproar over Mr. Obama not wearing a flag pin? Though I am sure he didn’t do it for this reason, he was actually more correct in NOT doing it than those who DID. Why? The flag is never to be used as a part of clothing or in jewelry. No code. Just just respect given to the symbol of our nation.
Do I like the flag shown in the photo? No. I think it is disrespectful. Would I cause a revolt over it? No. Come on folks. Use a little common sense here.
