Orioles trade with the Cubs for Felix Pie
The Orioles have acquired outfielder Felix Pie, sending left-handed pitcher Garrett Olson and minor league right-hander Henry Williamson to the Chicago Cubs in a deal announced this afternoon.
The 23-year-old Pie, who was named the Cubs’ top prospect by Baseball America in 2006 and 2007, hit .241 in 43 games with Chicago last season and .287 in 85 games at Triple-A Iowa. Pie has batted .299 in 628 career minor league games. He was signed by the Cubs as an undrafted free agent in 2001.
Olson, 25, went 9-10 with a 6.65 ERA in 26 starts for the Orioles in 2008, and is 10-13 with a 6.87 ERA in two seasons in the majors. The left-hander was the Orioles’ second selection (48th overall) in the 2005 First Year Player Draft.
Williamson went 0-1 with 42 strikeouts and a 3.72 ERA in 29 1/3 innings with Single-A Aberdeen and Delmarva in 2008.
