A former gym teacher from Parkville has been sentenced to six months in jail for sexually abusing a former student at his home, where she often stayed the night and babysat.

Timothy A. Rhodes, 43, also must register as a sex offender and was placed on three years’ supervised probation Tuesday afternoon by Judge Judith C. Ensor.

“This was just a horrible, horrible breach of trust,” Ensor said in Baltimore County Circuit Court.

Rhodes, who taught gym at Pleasant Plains Elementary School at the time of the incidents, was scheduled to be tried Tuesday morning on charges of sexually abusing former students. Instead, he pleaded guilty to one third-degree sex offense in exchange for three other charges being dropped in one of the cases, with the other case being moved to the stet docket for one year.
