I just made my usual morning commute to the 503 MARC train that arrives at Martin State Airport at 5:10. The snow on the car had turned to a crunchy sheet of ice overnight.

Getting out of our condo’s parking lot was the fun part – there are two ways and both are uphill. After trying one way and almost overheating the car trying to climb up the hill with the ice. The other way wasn’t much better. A second attempt at the first hill was successful and we got onto the first secondary road we traveled. It was still in pretty rough shape, as was the next road we got on (Joppa Road.) Joppa Road had the first plows/salt trucks we had seen of the morning. Silver Spring Rd. was in bad shape too but as we crossed Belair Road it looked pretty clear. We dodged a big hill on Silver Spring and instead went an alternate route to get to 43. There were still patches of ice and slick spots – especially in turning lanes. 43 was pretty clear and had a decent amount of traffic on it for 5 a.m. My train was visible as we crested the bridge over the tracks headed toward the intersection at the Warfield ANGB gate. I just made my train dodging the plow that was taking care of their parking lot.
