5-year old girl alerts family to fire
Two smoke alarms saved a Baltimore family’s life, but only one comes with batteries. The other is a five year old named Alaurra.
Daphne Montgomery had fallen off to sleep. It was Alaurra who woke her up to tell her that the smoke detector was going off. Montgomery said she asked her boyfriend to check the detector.
It never occurred to her the house would actually be on fire. Moments later, she realized they needed to get out of the house fast. By that time the flames had already spread from the basement to the first floor.
By the time firefighter’s arrived to the home in the 3600 block of W. Belvedere Avenue, the house was engulfed in flames. Alaurra’s father was rescued from the roof just moments before it collapsed.
