Prince Georges County Police say a University of Maryland student was raped early Saturday morning after leaving a bar near campus on Route 1 and getting into a vehicle with a stranger who offered her a ride.

The woman says she left a bar along Route 1 across from the University of Maryland campus early Saturday morning and began walking down College Avenue when she accepted a ride from a man in a dark SUV or pickup. She says he was a stranger.

The student said the man then drove her to a secluded area and raped her. She says he then headed eastbound on Route 50 before dumping her along the highway near Route 424 Davidsonville Road in Anne Arundel County. The 21-year-old said she was able to wave down a passing police officer.
