CSX layoffs
Rail operator CSX Corp. says the weak economy has forced it to lay off 57 workers at its Cumberland rail yard.
Spokesman Robert Sullivan said 47 of those furloughed worked in train operations and 10 were in mechanical repair jobs. He said the Jacksonville, Fla.-based company hopes to bring the workers back once the economy improves.
The Cumberland yard currently has about 800 active employees Earlier this month, CSX laid off 35 workers in Russell, Ky., and two in Huntingon, W.Va.
