Jury selection begins in Lackl murder case
It was a murder that gripped the headlines. A 38-year-old man was gunned down outside his home after his testimony helped put a killer behind bars. Derek Valcourt reports jury selection is now set to begin.
Carl Lackl, 38, was gunned down in front of his Rosedale home last year just days before he was set to testify that he witnessed Patrick Byers murder another man.
According to police, Byers ordered the hit from jail and offered money to have Lackl killed.
“The motivation here was witness intimidation, witness murder,” said Bill Toohey, Baltimore Co. Police.
“He was assassinated, I mean it’s pure and simple,” said a family member.

With Byers’ trial set to begin Monday, the judge has ordered all jurors will remain anonymous. Their names will not be revealed to anyone.
