Amtrak emergency shuts down MARC Penn Line South of New Carrollton
MARC Train 503 just terminated at New Carrollton due to police activity between there and DC. This will have a domino effect on MARC service on the Penn Line I’m sure. This presumably affects all Amtrak service as well.
A MD MTA email indicates:
All Penn Line Commuters all southbound trains will terminate at New Carrollton due to Amtrak emergency. Metro will honor MARC tickets
Updates from MTA:
6:51 a.m. Update:Amtrak emergency is clear and all Penn Line trains are terminating at Union Station expect some delays.
6:58 a.m. Penn MARC 402 has been canceled. The next available northbound train will be MARC 506.
7:10 a.m. Train 506 expect 15 minutes delay departing Washington
7:23 a.m. Update:Train 506 departed Washington three minutes late
DC Alerts
7:02 a.m. There will be a delay in AMTRAK and MARC train service out ot Union Station due to a police investigation on one of the tracks.
Other Updates
WUSA ran with the news of the disruptuon but has yet to report the cause.
WJLA reports that, “The nature of the Amtrak emergency has not yet been made public.”
WJLA later confirmed that a person was hit:
Amtrak officials confirmed that a person was hit by an Amtrak train early Tuesday.
Early Tuesday, the Maryland Transit Administration announced that all southbound MARC trains on the Penn Line would terminate at New Carrollton due to an Amtrak emergency.
Now Amtrak has confirmed that a train is believed to have hit someone.
Train 187 was headed from New York to D.C.’s Union Station overnight. Upon arriving at Union Station around 12:30 a.m., evidence of human remains was discovered on the outside of the train.
