Baltimore takes the cake!
July issue gives readers an inside look at the top crabcakes in area

(June 23, 2009) – Is there such a thing as a bad crabcake? Baltimore magazine’s July issue makes it look like an oxymoron. The July cover story, Crab-licious!, will make even the most seasoned cake-eater’s mouth water with the most eclectic showcase of crab cake variety in Charm City.

With overwhelming choices and fierce loyalties, crabcake analysis has to be a science. Baltimore magazine’s team searched all over for the best crab cake, from the classic crab cakes to those found in the most unexpected places.  And to help readers navigate their way, Baltimore magazine offers a few words to sum up their experience from “very little filler” and “pure tradition” to “larger than a hockey puck” and “worth the drive.”

“I’ve lived all over the country and in my search for a taste of home, I found that no other crab cake compares to the Maryland jumbo lump crab cake.  It’s something we do well and it’s a tradition that continues to go strong,” said Senior Editor of Baltimore magazine Suzanne Loudermilk.  “Our extensive look at crab cakes for the July issue shows just that.”

Additionally, local celebrities including Maryland’s First Lady Katie O’Malley, National Aquarium Executive Director David Pittenger and WJZ-TV anchor Denise Koch weighed in on the region’s delicacy to reveal their favorite recipes and places to find them.  Also included in the cover story is an interview with Nancy Faidley-Devine, co-owner of Faidley Seafood, an institution in Baltimore since 1783.

The July issue of Baltimore magazine, released on June 17, 2009, is available by subscription and can also be purchased at newsstands throughout the Baltimore area.

Baltimore magazine is the area’s most popular guide to the best of the greater Baltimore region. Its “Best of Baltimore,” “Top Doctors,” and “Best Restaurants” features have become signatures of the magazine, and Baltimore’s monthly exploration of politics, food, business, lifestyle, and the arts has earned numerous awards, including several City and Regional Magazine Awards (CRMA) and Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) awards. This year, Baltimore magazine celebrates its 101st anniversary and is the country’s oldest continuously published city/regional magazine.
