Two people are recovering after being stabbed while involved in a large fight downtown Saturday night, police say.

An officer was walking along East Baltimore and South Charles Streets at around 10:40 p.m. when he came across a large group of males fighting, says Detective Donny Moses, spokesperson for the Baltimore City Police Department. The officer approached the men and discovered two stabbing victims.

Officers did make an arrest at the scene. Derrick Thornton, 33, of the 2800-block of Lake Avenue, was charged with first and second degree assault and first-degree attempted murder, says Moses.

Police are still working to find out what the fight was about.
