Customers should seek assistance prior to the start of cold weather
and not wait until they are in crisisBALTIMORE, Sept. 22, 2009 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), a subsidiary of Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG), today, strongly encouraged customers to attend the Energy Assistance Expo on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, 1219 Druid Hill Avenue in Baltimore. BGE is working with the Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP) and the Upton Community Association to help qualifying customers who may be in need of energy assistance.
“The first day of fall is the perfect opportunity for customers to prepare their families for the upcoming cold weather,” said Jeannette M. Mills, senior vice president of customer relations and account services for BGE. “In addition to helping customers complete energy assistance applications, BGE is also providing customers with tips for making simple, low cost or no cost energy efficiency improvements to their homes. We want all of our customers to be ready for the cold weather and not wait until they are in crisis to take action.”
Customers who have not qualified for energy assistance in the past are encouraged to attend the Expo as income guidelines have changed. New income eligibility guidelines for the current enrollment period are as follows:

2 $2,124.79
3 $2,670.20
4 $3,215.62
5 $3,761.04
6 $4,306.45For each additional person in the household, add $545.42.
Eligible applicants must have an existing BGE account or be in the process of applying for a new account.
Customers applying for energy assistance should bring the following with them for fast and efficient processing:
o Government issued photo identification
o Proof of total gross income for the last 30 days for all household members
o Proof of residence (lease, rent book, mortgage statement, etc.)
o Copies of Social Security cards for all household members including children
o Copy of most recent utility bill
o Name of home energy supplier and account numberBGE estimates 200,000 customers in its service area are limited income; however, only approximately 50,000 of those customers apply for OHEP assistance. Additionally, customers who need aid beyond the OHEP grant
may contact the Fuel Fund of Maryland, BGE Community Assistance Fund, as well as other community based organizations. While energy assistance events are held periodically throughout the year, qualifying customers can apply for grants at any OHEP office during normal business hours.
