UMES Employee Sentenced for Felony Theft

BALTIMORE, MD ( September 29, 2009) – Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler announced today that former State employee Dwayne Walker of Hyattsville entered a plea of guilty to one count of felony theft in the Circuit Court for Somerset County before Visiting Judge Alfred Truitt. Walker was given a three year suspended sentence and placed on three years of active, supervised probation.

Walker had been employed as the Assistant Director of Student Activities at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore in March of 2008 when he deposited a university check meant to pay for student tickets for an off campus event into his personal account. He proceeded to spend the $8,109 on personal, unauthorized expenses in a short period of time.

This case was investigated by the Attorney General’s Criminal Division with assistance from the Maryland State Police. In making today’s announcement, Attorney General Gansler thanked Assistant Attorney General Megan Limarzi for her work on the case.
