Lyrics from Obama worship song in Maryland elementary school
I somehow missed something that Brian Griffiths picked up last week.
I was reading Sean and Frank’s page today to see their link to one of our stories yesterday and noticed the song lyrics and then I found the Red Maryland link by Griffiths above via Google.
The following song was taught to students to sing at Longfellow Elementary in Howard County in recent weeks:
Obama,
President Obama,
President Obama,
President Obama,
President Obama–He says
Yes we can!
President Obama–We say
Yes we can!
President Obama–I say
Yes I can!
President Obama–He says
Yes we can!Barack Obama–Oh yes he rates,
The first Black President in the United States!
He’s smart and he’s–so so good!
He’ll lead this country as he should!
He wants us all to work together,
To make this country even better!
Prez’ Obama says–”Yes We Can!”
Make the US better–hand in hand!Obama,
President Obama,
President Obama,
President Obama
President!

Okay, what’s the problem here? It’s wrong for kids to feel good about themselves? This song is innocuous. Do you really think kids are leaving school after singing this and pledging undying allegiance to Obama? If that were true, everyone who went to my Catholic school would still be a practicing Catholic. Believe me, that is not the case.

Girard31, that’s RIDICULOUS! WE, the PEOPLE, of the USA, do not sing “praise” to any person in this country! We do not worship kinds, or political figures, and this kinda crap teaches kids (at impressionable ages) that it is okay to do such. I don’t know how you were raised, but no one on this earth was better than anyone else on this earth, and therefore did not (does not) deserve praise of a kingly or otherworldly nature. PERIOD!

The scary part, this story, I CAN ASSURE YOU, was never verified. IT’S NOT TRUE. It’s sad to see so many people jumping on a bandwagon of criticism. Anyone who is disgraced by this should be even more disgraced by the fact that they believe everything they read. Give the school and the administration some credit.

Mr. *******,
“Yes I Can” Song – Longfellow Elementary School
Background:
Last week, all LES first graders were shown a videotape of President Obama’s speech to students as part of the school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Program (PBIS) focus on being safe, responsible and respectful. As the classes were gathering in one of the first grade classrooms, the teacher was playing a CD of a song she and her students composed last year for a technology competition (lyrics attached). She also played the song as the students were leaving.
One parent called and emailed the school with the complaint that students were being forced to “glorify and worship” President Obama. The school administration responded to this parent and provided him with a copy of the lyrics, which he posted on a blog.
• The objective of this lesson was to motivate students with a positive message to be respectful, stay in school, work hard and do their best.
• The lesson supports the work the school is doing as part of PBIS.
• There was no intention or attempt to glorify or worship the President.
• The children did sing along to the chorus of the song, which repeats “Yes I Can” and “Yes We Can.” Repetition of this nature is a common element in songs for children of this age.
• The focus of the lesson was on the children and positive behavior, not the President.
• Educators often use positive role models in their lessons, including Presidents of the United States, and this practice is supported by the Howard County Public School System.
The Howard County Public School System does not require nor encourage teachers to include references to President Obama in their lessons, nor does it discourage the use of such references.

I just want to clear up some misinformation. The Howard County Board of Education is not “holding a meeting” to discuss this topic. The Board has a regularly scheduled Board meeting on Thursday. We understand that at least one person intends to speak on the topic at the Public Forum segment of the meeting.

This is disgusting. How long until we have the Obama Youth? wonder if you get a neato tan uniform with it? I would expect the same Obamaites that champion this would be the first to protest a song about Reagan (A real hero) No song like this in my house will be sung! Remarkable…

All hail OBAMA!!! Sing his praises!!!! Praise thy lord OBAMA!
“Let us all bow our heads
and recite the obamas prayer”
The obamas prayer
O-bama
who art in whitehouse
hallowed be thy name
thy kingdom com (unist)
thy bills be passed
on earth
as it has in Chicago
Give us this check
our daily foodstamps
and forgive us our debt
as we scamper to
figure out how to pay for it
and lead us not
into the free market
but deliver us from prosperity
for thine is the kingdom
and the power
of the elite
AMEN

Wow….really?? I have a viseral reaction to GW Bush…but is this song came back to me through my elementary school child…I would laugh at it’s odacity…but I don’t have a problem teaching our children that OUR American President is somebody to respect. Disagree with policy, blog out, etc but when kids are told you can’t trust your government, and presidents are illigitimate..they grow up to be revolutionaries…why trust any of it?? Relax, he told your kids to stay in school and study hard. That they could make it to the highest office if they worked hard (and for folks of color that is no small feat) For the parents that think this is a real problem….my advide..Keep them home, make them stupid….just increased the chances for the rest of us.

This is a new low for U.S. schools! This Obama chant resembles the kind of brainwashing that goes on in China schools for Chairman Mao. But then, come to think of it, there are a lot of similarities between these two Marxists.

Really Al…is the following better?
President Obama,
President Obama–He says No we Can’t!
President Obama–We say You’re right, we can’t!
President Obama–I say No we Can’t!
President Obama–He says You’re right, we can’t!
Barack Obama–Oh yes he rates,
The first Black President in the United States!
He’s really stupid and he’s just so so!
He’ll lead this country down the road to hell!
He wants us all to work against each other,
To make this country even more fractured and disfunctional!
Prez’ Obama says–”No We Can’t!”
Make the US a banana republic run by fundamentalist mercinaries!
Obama,President Obama,
Oh no…my mistake…those are NeoCons….Nevermind!!!
