Race for the Cure Set for Hunt Valley
Expect Road Closures and DetoursBaltimore County, Md. (October 15, 2009) – Baltimore County is host once again for the 17th Annual Susan G. Komen Maryland Race for the Cure. On Sunday, October 18, runners from around the state will meet at the Race Village located on the parking lots of the Executive Plaza in Hunt Valley. Participants and others will begin arriving at 6 a.m. and the race will start at 8 a.m.
To help keep things running smoothly, officers from the Baltimore County Police Department will be on hand to keep runners, volunteers, onlookers, and others safe during the event. They are also aware of the problems that drivers may face during the race and will be directing traffic, where necessary, to keep traffic moving as efficiently as possible.
To help motorists navigate the area, Variable Message Signs (VMS) have been placed at the appropriate locations to aid motorists the day of the race.
Road closures are as follows:
Shawan Road from McCormick east to York Road will be closed on October 18 at 6 a.m. and re-opened at noon.
York Road north of Ashland Road to McCormick will be closed on October 18 at 7:45 a.m. and re-opened at 10 a.m.
York Road southbound at Shawan will be closed on October 18 at 7:30 a.m. and re-opened at 10 a.m.
Beaver Dam Road eastbound at Ivy Hill will be closed on October 18 at 7:30 a.m. and re-opened at noon.
McCormick Road between Shawan Road and Beaver Dam Road will be closed on October 18 at 7 a.m. and re-opened at noon.
Gilroy Road between Beaver Dam Road and Shilling Circle will be closed on October 18 at 6 a.m. and re-opened at noon.
Shilling Road between Pepper Road and McCormick Road will be closed on October 18 at 6 a.m. and re-opened at noon.
Warren Road westbound at York Road will be closed on October 18 at 7:45 a.m. and re-opened at 10 a.m.
Please note: Shawan Road, Exit 20 off I-83 will remain open.For those traveling northbound on York Road, the detour route will be right onto Ashland Road proceeding to Paper Mill Road and then left at Phoenix and back to York Road.
For those traveling southbound on York Road, the detour route will be left at Phoenix Road, then right at Paper Mill Road to Ashland Road and back to York Road.
For those traveling northbound on Beaver Dam Road, the detour will direct them to turn right at Cockeysville Road to York Road.
There will be shuttle buses to transport people from the Lakefront Business area, North Park business area, Sam’s Club/Lowe’s parking lot as well as the Timonium Light Rail Park and Ride.
The MTA will be operating a special schedule starting as early as 5 a.m. to accommodate the public on race day.
