Rapist Charged in Second Rape Case Between 1980 and 1981
Baltimore County, Md. (October 20, 2009) – Baltimore County Police have charged Herman Bolling, 58, on October 15, for a second rape he committed in 1980. The crime occurred in the 100-block of Village of Pine Court, 21133 in Precinct 2/Woodlawn. He is awaiting trial on a 1981 rape charge at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
DNA Identified Rape Suspect
Detectives looked at the unsolved case on Village of Pine Court again earlier this year and re-submitted the evidence to compare for any new CODIS entries from offenders. On October 5, the Baltimore County Police Department’s Biology Lab contacted detectives and advised them that Herman Bolling matched the suspect DNA that was stored in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Bolling raped the then 21-year-old woman on August 26, 1980. The woman, who lived on Village of Pine Court, was asleep when she heard a noise. The armed suspect put a knife to the victim’s throat and raped her. The victim was taken to the hospital for a SAFE exam and discharged.
Also Charged in 1981 Rape
Bolling was also charged in January 2009 for the rape of a then 58-year-old woman from June 3, 1981 in the 4100-block of Butler Road, 21136, in Precinct 3/Franklin. The woman had returned home from walking her dog when she was approached by the suspect who asked to use her phone. As she was entering her home, the suspect forced her inside and he used the dog leash to tie her hands. The suspect, armed with a handgun, raped the woman then attempted to suffocate and strangle her while physically kicking her, breaking her ribs and causing a deep laceration to her neck. The suspect fled and the woman was able to free herself and call for help. She was transported to the hospital where a SAFE exam was completed and she remained hospitalized for her injuries. Police found that the suspect also burglarized the home and took approximately $5,000 in property.
Herman Bolling is now charged with two counts of first-degree rape, attempted first-degree murder, and first-degree burglary. He is detained at the Baltimore County Detention Center on bail denied pending trial.
