Pat McDonough Testing the Waters for Governor, Part II
Earlier in the week, I attended the Maryland Republican Party convention where we distributed hundreds of campaign flyers and met face-to-face with almost every person at the event. The reaction was exciting and positive. Audrey Scott, our new State Party Chairperson, after her victory, announced that she, personally, appreciated the support of three State delegates. My name was mentioned to the entire convention by the new chairperson as one of those three delegates. Audrey is a tough and honest leader who will bring the change that is needed to move the Party forward in this important election year.
I had the opportunity to share the stage with Governor Ehrlich at the Route 40 Republican Club fundraiser. More than 300 enthusiastic members attended the event. Bob and I were the only two speakers. I had to be careful and not offend anyone, but at the same time, I delivered my message. It all went off very well. Bob and I were both received with a lot of support.
On Thursday, I was the guest speaker at a campaign event in Anne Arundel County for Gary Middlebrook, candidate for County Council. A good crowd turned out for Gary’s event. I told them that 2010 would be a good Republican year and, as a candidate for Governor, I would work with all Republican candidates throughout the State under a plan that I call “Team Maryland for Victory.”
This week, we invested some campaign funds in a great advertisement in The Washington Times newspaper that went out to tens of thousands of conservatives throughout Maryland. It featured a photograph of Ronald Reagan and myself and outlined my Reagan philosophy for Maryland. The response was huge.
This week, I also had the opportunity to speak to a veterans’ group, the Perry Hall Business Association, and at Senator Barry Glassman’s fundraiser. We launched a large mailer to the business community and prepared for a mailer for our December 17th seasons’ greeting party/fundraiser featuring Ed Norris. There were too many other activities to mention at this time.
Stay tuned for another campaign update in the near future.
