The Naval Academy announced their 2010 football schedule on Thursday, which includes five games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and three neutral site games in NFL venues. The Mids will play four teams who played in a bowl in 2009, including two conference champions. The Mids are coming off a 10-4 campaign, including a seventh-consecutive Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy and a victory over Missouri in the Texas Bowl.

Navy will kick off the 2010 campaign on Sept. 4 against Maryland at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

Maryland lost its sixth straight game at Florida State yesterday. A loss next week would result in the first 10-loss season in program history.

Also, the University of Maryland is meeting with reps of Ralph Friedgen to discuss a possible buyout of his contract.

Testudo Times speculates that Head Coach-in-Waiting James Franklin may also be on his way out.

Jeff Barker reports a few things that have come to light over the weekend:

• Friedgen’s lawyer says Athletic Director Debbie Yow has yet to contact the coach about his status
• Friedgen is aware of “rising speculation” about his potential firing
• Yow is meeting with the football team Monday but no change is expected to be announced in that meeting
• Friedgen has support of the leadership of the Terrapin Club and the Maryland Gridiron Network
• Friedgen’s lawyer says he expects to be back next season

Earlier this season, there were calls for Yow’s dismissal by the father of quarterback Chris Turner. Barker points out that fans are turning against Friedgen now, although the MGN and Terrapin Club leadership have yet to give up on him.

The Blind Side is an upcoming 2009 film written and directed by John Lee Hancock, and based on the 2006 book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis. The storyline features Michael Oher, an offensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens NFL football team. The film follows Oher from his impoverished upbringings, through his years at Briarcrest Christian School, his adoption by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, and on to his position as one of the most highly coveted prospects in college football.

The film stars Quinton Aaron as Michael Oher and Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw as Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy, Oher’s adopted parents. Kathy Bates co-stars as Miss Sue, Oher’s no-nonsense tutor. The movie also features appearances by several current and former NCAA coaches, including Phil Fulmer, Nick Saban, Lou Holtz and Tommy Tuberville.

University of South Carolina, Maryland to Wear Special Uniforms and Footwear on November 14th

Baltimore, MD., October 20, 2009 – Under Armour (NSYE:UA) today announced its partnership with the Wounded Warrior Project, a not-for-profit organization that provides programs and services for injured service members and their families. The two have joined forces in conjunction with the University of South Carolina and University of Maryland football teams to recognize the sacrifices made by those who have served and those that continue to serve in our nation’s Armed Forces.

On November 14, in honor of our troops, the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and University of Maryland Terrapins will wear specially designed head-to-toe uniforms for their Game Day match-ups versus the University of Florida Gators and Virginia Tech Hokies respectively. The teams will take the field in black and desert camouflage uniforms featuring the Wounded Warrior Project logo. The uniforms will also have a unique twist; a core value embellishment – Duty, Honor, Courage, Commitment, Integrity, Country, and Service – will replace the players’ last name on the back of each jersey. Both games will be nationally televised.
