Justin Ready announced his campaign in the Republican Primary for the House of Delegates last week. Since then, he has been fundraising, sign waving during rush hours, and engaged in other campaign activities.
Ready is challenging Del. Tanya Shewell and Del. Nancy Stocksdale, the incumbents for the Carroll County district, in the September 14 Republican Primary. Ready is the former Executive Director for the Maryland GOP. You can follow his campaign on his blog, Facebook, and on Twitter.
I had hoped to blog this information sooner. I have recently become acquainted with the plight of the Koerner family, who were forced out of their Carroll County home due to takeover of mold. A WMAR story from August (which includes a stock photo of a home – the Koerners lived much more modestly) details all the family went through with spending $30,000 to attempt to get rid of the mold only to have it return. They are still paying the mortgage on the house they can’t live in. The family of six had been living in their van, but have been getting some assistance to live in a hotel now. I understand they also are trying to make arranges to find another house to live in.
Today, there will be a fundraiser to help out with their expenses. It will be held from 3-5 p.m. at the McDonald’s in Eldersburg on Route 26. There will be a barberfshop quartert singing and McDonald’s will be selling coupons for food. If you have any questions about the fundraiser, Rory at McDonald’s is heading it up. He can be reached at 410-795-8302.

A Carroll County political group is organizing a bus trip to participate in The Taxpayer March on Washington, D.C., next month.
More than 100 people have already registered for the Sept. 12 trip, said Michelle Jefferson, one of the founders of the group We the People.
She said the group has reserved three buses for the trip and could reserve a fourth bus if there is enough interest. Anyone interested in the trip must register by Friday.
The buses will be leaving from St. John Catholic Church in Westminster, 43 Monroe St., at 8 a.m. the day of the march.
The march to the U.S. Capitol and subsequent rally is being sponsored by several groups with conservative or libertarian leanings.
The rally is a continuation of the Tax Day Tea Party protests that were held throughout the country in April, according to a press release from the march’s national sponsor, the Freedom Works Foundation.
Jefferson said the point of the march and rally is to get political leaders to recognize the depth of opposition to continued government spending.
