Senior Players championship leaving Baltimore Country Club next year

As first reported by WBAL News, Baltimore’s PGA tour event, The Seniors Players Championship at the Baltimore Country Club, will be moving to the DC suburbs next year.

WBAL’s Scott Wykoff reports the PGA Tour requested that the 2010 Senior Players Championship move to The TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac and then return to the Baltimore Country Club for the final year of the current Contract in 2011.

WBAL News has just confirmed that the The Board of Governors of the Baltimore Country Club has approved the change.

Baltimore County, Md. (September 30, 2009) – The Baltimore County Police Department is advising the public, that due to a golf tournament to be held at the Baltimore Country Club (Five Farms) in Hunt Valley, there could be traffic delays along Shawan Road.

Traffic will be congested September 30–October 4 with a rain date of October 5.

There is no parking allowed along Shawan Road at any time during the tournament. Parking for the general public will be located on a field at the southeastern corner of the intersection of Shawan and Beaver Dam Roads. Parking for the handicapped, VIPs, media, volunteers, and golf course employees will be provided at the Padonia Swim Club located at the corner of Jenifer and Padonia Roads. Shuttle buses will be provided for the general public and this parking area as well. The buses will start running at 7 a.m. and will continue until the conclusion of the day’s play.

The estimated times for the congestion are from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 2 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m. during the week and all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Those last three days are expected to be the most congested of the week. With the exception of a portion of Mays Chapel Road near the golf course, no other public roads will be closed during the tournament.

On October 6, Mays Chapel Road will be closed to allow for the removal of a crane that will be dismantled at the end of the tournament.
