Mayor Dixon Celebrates Winner of Major League Baseball “All-Stars Among Us” Award
Baltimore, MD (July 9, 2009) – Mayor Sheila Dixon today congratulated Mr. Frank Kolarek of Baltimore for being named one of Major League Baseball’s “All-Stars Among Us.” Mr. Kolarek is one of 30 winners nationally. The campaign honors individuals making extraordinary contributions to their communities. He will represent the Baltimore Orioles at next week’s All-Star Game in St. Louis.
Mr. Kolarek is the founder of League of Dreams, an organization that assists children with mental and physical disabilities by providing opportunities for children to play baseball and softball in a safe and supportive environment. Mr. Kolarek and League of Dreams collaborate with the Department of Recreation and Parks in conjunction with the Office of Disabilities to provide programs for children throughout Baltimore.
“Frank Kolarek’s work with children is truly impressive,” said Mayor Sheila Dixon. “He is one of the many heroes in Baltimore who have committed themselves to people in our community. We applaud Frank’s many achievements and celebrate this special recognition.”
As a result of Frank’s outstanding contributions to the Baltimore community, he will join the other winners at the 80th Major League Baseball All-Star Game in St. Louis, where President Barack Obama will throw the first pitch. Frank will take part in a special presentation before the game, which airs on FOX on Tuesday, July 14th at 8:00 p.m. Additionally, Frank will participate in a variety of All-Star events in the days leading up to the game.
“Major League Baseball is proud to honor this impressive group of people whose achievements demonstrate the renewed sense of community service that will make our nation an example for the world,” said Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. “The All-Stars Among Us winners are making a significant impact in their communities with a selfless dedication to very important causes.”
