Saint Agnes Foundation to Sponsor Free H1N1 Vaccination Clinic for the Community

(Baltimore) – The Saint Agnes Foundation will be sponsoring a Community H1N1 Influenza Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, January 9, 2010 from 10 am until 2 pm at Saint Agnes Hospital, 900 Caton Avenue. The vaccine will be provided free of charge to adults and children for whom the vaccination is recommended, on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the Baltimore City Health Department is holding a free flu clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday on the 6th floor of the warehouse building at Camden Yards. Both H1N1 vaccines and seasonal flu vaccines will be given.

Baltimore County health officials say the lines were so long outside a swine flu vaccine clinic in Perry Hall that the clinic opened two hours early today.

Dr. Gregory Branch told WBAL News that people had camped out at Perry Hall Middle School since midnight, so officials decided to open the doors at 8 a.m., two hours before the schedule start time.

A caller to WBAL said that he noticed hundreds of people standing in line.

Branch said officials will hand out all of the vaccines available for the clinic. He would not say how many doses are available. Branch did say those who have not arrived at the school this morning, should wait until the county holds another clinic. The county cancelled three clinics scheduled for this Wednesday. There are three more clinics tentatively scheduled for the following week.

Branch said today’s clinic is supposed to end at 4 p.m., but it will likely end earlier.

Branch said he is confident that the county will have enough vaccine for everyone who wants a shot in November and December.

I heard second-hand earlier that the crowds were so bad that the number of people parking across the street at the shopping center on Ebenezer Road were interfering with the business of several retail establishments there. People were unable to find parking places to shop at those stores due to the people parking there to go across the street to the H1N1 clinic.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL PATIENTS AND VISITORS:

GBMC cares about the health of its community, patients, visitors and staff members. Along
with many other hospitals in Maryland and across the country, we have instituted a modified
visitor policy effective Monday October 12 and continuing during the flu season to help
prevent exposure.

We ask for your cooperation with the following:
• Visiting hours hospitalwide are limited to between 12 pm and 8 pm.

• Children under age 17, unless they are a patient, are NOT allowed to visit
patient care areas located on the GBMC campus such as patient rooms,
therapy areas, outpatient service areas and GBMC physician offices. The CDC
has indicated that young people are more at-risk as carriers and transmitters of
the seasonal flu and the H1N1 virus.

• Persons with GBMC outpatient or physician appointments are asked to come to
those appointments without their children under age 17, unless the
appointment or healthcare service is for the child.

• Only one (1) adult will be allowed to visit patient care areas such as patient
rooms, therapy areas, outpatient service areas and GBMC physician offices.
Two adult visitors will be permitted to visit new mothers in the post-partum
unit (Unit 25/26).

• All visitors entering critical care patient units (Units 37, 47, 57, 59) will be
required to wear a surgical mask. Please also wear a mask if you are visiting
an individual in a patient care area such as patient rooms, therapy areas and
outpatient service areas.

• Mask and hand hygiene stations are provided for your convenience throughout
the hospital and at the entrance points to each patient care area.

• To protect the safety of our patients, employees and volunteers, persons with
upper respiratory illness (cough, fever, etc) are asked NOT to visit patients.

• We understand certain circumstances need to be handled on an individual
basis and unit staff will work to accommodate these situations.
