WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) today announced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes funding for job training in renewable and energy efficient industries in Maryland through the Department of Labor (DOL).

This $4.6 million ARRA grant has been awarded H-CAP, Inc to provide enhanced skills training to job seekers and entry-level environmental service workers for new and emerging green jobs in the healthcare industry. The project will operate in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Prince George’s County in Maryland, as well as counties in New York, California and the District of Columbia.

“This Partnership is funded with recovery dollars and it is an investment in our future – a future in which our state and nation will become more energy efficient and independent and one that will create new, green jobs that will help grow our economy,” said Senator Cardin, a member of the Senate Budget Committee.

“This funding is exactly what the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act is all about – creating and sustaining jobs today and preparing for the jobs of tomorrow,” Senator Mikulski said. “This grant will give Marylanders the opportunity to get the training they need to find and keep a job, while also helping to make sure that health care in Maryland is environmentally friendly.”

H-CAP, Inc. will partner with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in Maryland as well as Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), a coalition that promotes environmentally-friendly healthcare practices, to train approximately 3,000 job seekers. The project will also develop new curricula that will cover the role of environmental service workers in green healthcare, the development of cross-industry green jobs and green career pathways for entry-level workers.

Transportation to tonight’s Cardin Town Hall?

Democratic Party activist Penny McCrimmon’s email that was included in a previous post on Cardin staffers working with union and ACORN activists to turn out people to tonight’s town hall included this line:

A Republican Friend (who says the Republicans just don’t get it) told me that the few Republican Legislators that we have in the State are sponsoring the “Tea-Baggers” by paying for their transportation to this event.

A message sent to the Friends of Allan Kittleman group on Facebook would indicate that the passengers are paying their own way to the event. That directly contradicts what McCrimmon claimed.

Karen Winterling is organizing an Eyre Bus to go to the Towson Town Center for Ben Cardin’s Town Hall, this Monday evening 5:15 to 9:00ish.

We will be leaving from the Long Gate Park & Ride, right next to Long-Gate Shopping Center. We would love for you to come.

The cost of the trip will be approximately 10.00 -14.00 per person., depending on how full the bus is.

This way no one will have to worry about the drive, cost of fuel, parking or anything else!!

For more info please email Karen at dgapres@comcast.net

UPDATE: Another link with information on bus rides from the same location says passengers will be charged $15.

Cardin staff working with SEIU/ACORN to generate pro-reform turnout tonight?

Erick Erickson

Below is an email chain forwarded to me. It originated with a Ben Cardin staffer. The Cardin staff is desperate to make his Senate townhall tonight look like a rally for Obamacare.

Isn’t this astroturfing, Senator? You, a United States Senator, using a network of liberals to gin up support for Obamacare?

And let’s put this in perspective: This means Senator Ben Cardin supports Obamacare and knows he can’t vote for it without an astrotruf campaign of his own.

Note that the original message at the bottom was sent by Rev. Jerome Stephens,
Statewide Field Representative for Senator Ben Cardin to Denise Riley at the AFL-CIO. Riley’s assistant Kim Tucker then blasted it out.

If you are in Maryland, show up tonight.

Note that SEIU and ACORN are sponsors.

We need to get the Obama volunteers to attend Senator Cardin’s Health Care Town Hall Meeting. If you’ve been watching the news, you’re aware that the “Tea Baggers” have been sabotaging Democratic Congressional Town Hall Meetings on President Obama’s Health Care reform meetings. We need to be a visible presence at this event to support the President’s agenda in the same manner that we worked to get him elected. All of the necessary contact info is provided herein.
