- Penn Line Commuters: Amtrak Track Work to Affect Select MARC Penn Line Trains
A major Amtrak track work project is about to begin between New Carrollton and Baltimore. Amtrak will be replacing the crossties (the concrete slabs that, in conjunction with rock ballast, secure the rails to the ground) on the northbound track.
As this track work progresses north, segments of track 1 will be taken out of service. When track 1 is out of service, temporary platform extensions will be used to permit continued high level platform boarding at stations. When your station has these temporary platforms in service, it is imperative that passengers wait on the concrete platform until the train has come to a complete stop, passengers have detrained, and the conductors direct passengers to board. These procedures are to ensure your safety.
For the next six months, the Penn Line schedule will change approximately every 4-5 weeks as work progresses north. The following changes will be effective on Monday, March 15, 2010:
• Train 400 will depart Washington four minutes earlier at 5:50am and New Carrollton four minutes earlier at 6:01am. For the next four weeks until April 19, it will not stop at Seabrook. It will depart Bowie State eight minutes earlier at 6:06am, Odenton 7 minutes
earlier at 6:12am, and BWI Marshall Airport as currently scheduled at 6:26am.
• Train 402 (6:45am departure from Washington) will add a stop at Seabrook at 6:59am until April 19, when the Seabrook stop will be restored to train 400.
• Train 450 (5:10pm departure from Washington) will NOT stop at Seabrook for the entire duration of this project. Please see below for more information on this change.
• Train 538 will depart Washington five minutes later at 6:10pm and will depart all stations en route to Perryville five minutes later.
No other train schedules are changed at this time; however, all northbound Penn Line
trains may experience minor delays of 5-7 minutes due to this project.
Seabrook Passengers: MARC recognizes that this set of schedule changes is particularly disruptive to passengers at Seabrook and we regret the inconvenience. For those passengers who currently ride train 450 to Seabrook, please consider the B27 Metrobus. Your MARC weekly or monthly pass is honored on the B27 at no extra charge. You can ride train 450 to New Carrollton, arrive at 5:20pm, and transfer to the 5:35pm B27 departure, which arrives at the Seabrook MARC station at 5:45pm. The B27 departs from the east side bus bay (turn right at the bottom of the Amtrak/MARC station concourse and go up the escalator).
The next schedule change is slated for Monday, April 19; details will follow on that change once they are finalized.
We appreciate your understanding and regret any inconvenience these schedule changes causes while Amtrak improves their railroad to provide MARC passengers with a comfortable and safe ride.
Thank you for riding MARC Train Services.
