The jury deliberations in the Sheila Dixon trial move into day 5. Will there be a verdict today before the holiday or will the jurors not feel pressured by Thanksgiving as a deadline? Len Lazarick of Maryland Reporter takes a look at jury selection practices in Maryland and how the Dixon case differed from the normal situation in that regard.
The mayor attended a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway last night with Ray Lewis and Mark Clayton.
Police officials will be padlocking Suite Ultralounge (a.k.a. Club Crush) at the Belvedere today at 5. The club will be shuttered for at least a year. A suspect charged with shooting his girlfriend turned himself in yesterday. The search for the suspect had resulted in lockdowns at two schools where children of his victim attend.
The Baltimore Business Journal reports that 16% of mortgages in the Baltimore area are underwater. The Maryland Retailers Association is predicting a gain in holiday sales this year.
Governor Martin O’Malley has said he opposed public funds being used to buy out Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen’s contract. Athletic department officials in reply pointed out that they are self-sufficient with a balanced budget for the past 16 years.
There is a report that Miss Irene’s in Fells Point has now closed and will be replaced by Poe Boys.
