Beltway construction overnight next week
SHA SETS STEEL FOR NEW I-695 BRIDGE OVER LIBERTY ROAD JANUARY 9-14
Nighttime Lane Closures and Intermittent Late Night Traffic Stops Begin Sunday Night, January 9
(January 4, 2010) – As part of the $25 million bridge replacement project at I-695 and Liberty Road in Baltimore County, the MD State Highway Administration (SHA) will initiate temporary and intermittent overnight lane closures on Liberty Road during the week of Jan. 9-14. The closures are necessary to set new steel beams for the bridge.
Beginning Sunday night, January 9 crews will close one lane in each direction along Liberty Road nightly through Jan. 14 between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. After 11 p.m., crews and police may stop all traffic in one direction at a time for up to 15 minutes at a time. No traffic will be allowed underneath the bridge while crews move the steel beams into place over Liberty Road. During this operation, there will be no lane closures along I-695; however, motorists traveling in the interchange area may encounter traffic delays. SHA advises motorists traveling along Liberty Road late at night to plan ahead for extra travel time and remain alert for lane closures and traffic stoppages.
Concrete General is the contractor for the project. Weather permitting, the steel beam placement will be complete 5 a.m. Friday morning, January 14. In case of winter storms, the work will take place on the next possible weeknight (Sunday- Thursday). The project began spring 2010 and is currently slated for completion fall 2012.
